Turning stars into champions

If you didn’t watch Ted Lasso go away, binge and come back. Now that you know the story, the point I want to focus on is that Ted was the coach that turned Jamie Tartt from a precocious star into a champion player.
Ted did not dispense true on-field advice as much as he built a “club wide culture of trust and support through thousands of imperceptible moments” that enabled all the players to perform better, especially their star striker Jamie.
Leadership coaching, at least how I see it, is just like that. Star executives, with flaws, have the potential but are just not there yet and need something to get themselves and their organization to the next level. Coaching at a one-on-one level identifies the gaps they have and works on exercises that improve their leadership skills. It’s not simple, it requires a commitment and a framework but imagine the value of going from the second tier to the Champions League: for AFC Richmond it was billions.
Do you have a star that is not quite a champion and wonder what would get them there? I have some ideas …
